Objective: This research was conducted to determine the gender perceptions of nursing students.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between October and November 2019. The population of the research consisted of 520 students studying in the Nursing Undergraduate Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences of a university, and the sample consisted of 247 students who agreed to participate in the study. “Descriptive Information Form” and “Perception of Gender Scale” were used to collect data. Percentage rate, frequency, and comparison tests were used in the analysis of the data.
Results: It was determined that 59.5% of the students participating in the study were between the ages of 20 and 21, 63.2% were women, and 59.5% of them had income equal to their expenses. It was determined that the mothers of 46.2% of the students were illiterate and the fathers of 57.1% were primary school graduates. It was determined that 72.9% of the students received information about gender. It was determined that the students’ Perception of Gender Scale mean score was 90.60 ± 18.91.
Conclusion: In this study, it was determined that the gender perceptions of nursing students were above the moderate level.
Hemşirelik Öğrencilerinin Toplumsal Cinsiyet Algılarının Belirlenmesi
Amaç: Bu araştırma, hemşirelik öğrencilerinin toplumsal cinsiyet algılarının belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı tipteki bu araştırma Ekim-Kasım 2019 tarihleri arasında yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini, bir Üniversitenin Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi’nde Hemşirelik Lisans Programında eğitimine devam eden 520 öğrenci, örneklemi ise, çalışmayı kabul eden 247 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Verilerin toplanmasında “Tanımlayıcı Bilgi Formu” ve “Toplumsal Cinsiyet Algısı Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analiz sürecinde yüzdelik oran, frekans ve karşılaştırma testleri kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin %59,5’inin 20–21 yaş arasında, %63,2’sinin kadın, %59,5’inin gelirinin giderine eşit olduğu saptanmıştır. Öğrencilerin %46,2’sinin annesinin okuryazar olmadığı, %57,1’inin babasının ilköğretim mezunu olduğu belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin %72,9’unun toplumsal cinsiyet ile ilgili bilgi aldığı tespit edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin Toplumsal Cinsiyet Algısı Ölçeği puan ortalamasının 90,60 ± 18,91 olduğu belirlenmiştir.
Sonuç: Bu araştırmada, hemşirelik öğrencilerinin toplumsal cinsiyet algılarının orta düzeyin üstünde olduğu saptanmıştır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Toplumsal cinsiyet, hemşirelik, öğrenci
